RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday the hiring of Valerie Garcia as the Ticket Sales and Operations Coordinator.
Garcia, the San Benito native, joins UTRGV Athletics after spending the last eight years working with Minor League Baseball programs across the country, including the Sugar Land Space Cowboys and Corpus Christi Hooks.
In her new role, Garcia will assist with ticket sales and operations for all UTRGV-ticketed athletic events, including but not limited to season ticket sales and single-game ticket sales.
“We’re excited to welcome Valerie back to the Rio Grande Valley and to the UTRGV Athletics family,” Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Sales and Operations Nick Swanson said. “She brings a wealth of ticketing experience from her time in Minor League Baseball, where she worked with three premier organizations, along with a genuine passion for serving our community. Her expertise, professionalism, and commitment to delivering exceptional customer service will be tremendous assets to our department, and I’m confident our fans and season ticket members will appreciate everything she brings to UTRGV Athletics and our community.”
Garcia spent the last three years with the Space Cowboys as an Account Executive where she facilitated group events, helped with renewals and bringing in new accounts, facilitated season ticket holder events, serviced client accounts, and kept track of group nights, voucher redemptions, and season ticket utilization.
“I am excited to join the UTRGV family as the new Ticket Sales and Operations Coordinator,” Garcia said. “Returning to the Rio Grande Valley makes this opportunity especially meaningful, and I look forward to using my ticket sales experience to serve our fans and community. I would like to sincerely thank Nick Swanson, [Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Revenue Officer Derek Schramm, and [Senior Vice President/Director of Athletics] Chasse Conque for this opportunity. I look forward to getting started and contributing to the success of UTRGV Athletics.”
Prior to her stint with the Space Cowboys, Garcia spent three years with the Reno Aces, also serving time as an Account Executive. In this role, she helped bring over 4,000+ students to the park on Education Days, gained experience with ticketing and customer relationship management programs, and helped with group sales.
While studying at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Garcia worked as the Box Office Lead for the Corpus Christi Hooks for two years. In this role, Garcia assisted customers with selection and recommended various season member packages, individual tickets, group discounts, and hospitality areas.
Garcia earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Management and a minor in Marketing in August 2019.
