A native of Harlingen and raised in Weslaco, Hernandez first began working for KRGV as an associate producer in January 2023, according to a biography on the station’s website. By November of that year, Hernandez had become a part of the Channel 5 Sports team and could be seen reporting from the sidelines at high school athletic competitions across the Valley. In 2025, Hernandez helped provide historic coverage of the first-ever team to play Division 1 college football in the Valley during the inaugural season of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros. Also during the fall, Hernandez could be seen on the Channel 5 News anchor desk during the station’s weekend and morning news broadcasts.

Prior to joining KRGV, Hernandez earned a degree in mass communication with a concentration in broadcasting from UTRGV in 2021. While in college, Hernandez served as a UTRGV cheerleader, placing second in national competition during her final year, and worked as a broadcast intern in the university’s athletics department. Upon graduation, she earned a position within UTRGV Athletics and as a sideline reporter for ESPN+ during UTRGV basketball games.

KRGV Sports Director KJ Doyle thanked Hernandez for her time at the station, praising her for the positive energy she brought to the team.

“Her positivity and enthusiasm was so contagious and a joy to have around! The next chapter awaits!” Doyle said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Though Hernandez has yet to announce where she’s headed next, Doyle hinted it’ll be somewhere in the Alamo City.

“Good luck in San Antonio!” Doyle’s post reads.
