Portions of deep South Texas remain under a flood watch after an unsettled weather system dumped several inches of rain across the region late Thursday into Friday morning.
The flood watch affects Bee, Duval, Goliad, inland Kleberg, inland Nueces, inland San Patricio, Jim Wells, La Salle, Live Oak, McMullen, Victoria and Webb counties.
“Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Additional rainfall totals of 1-3 inches with isolated higher amounts will fall over areas that have already seen 2-4 (inches) of rain within the watch area,” the NWS said in a flood watch advisory overnight.
Meanwhile, although the Valley is not under a flood watch, the potential for flash flooding remains as a cold front moves through the region late Friday into Saturday, bringing additional rain to areas already deluged Thursday night. As with Thursday night’s storms, much of Friday’s precipitation is expected to fall west of the Interstate 69-C corridor and along the border. Portions of southeastern Starr County could receive another 6 to 8 inches of rain.
Overnight, some 4,000 customers in the Valley lost power, according to KRGV Weather. Several outages persisted across deep South Texas into Friday morning. As of 9 a.m., about 248 customers in Starr County and 433 in Hidalgo County remained without power, according to AEP Texas and Magic Valley Electric Cooperative. Another 855 remained without power in Nueces County, according to AEP Texas and Nueces Electric Cooperative.
