Two years ago, we set out to tell the story of Harlingen.
It began with an application led by Cassandra, executive director of Visit Harlingen. She helped put into words what so many of us already knew: Harlingen is a community defined by its people. Being selected as one of only 20 finalists in the nation was already an incredible honor.
Then our community came together.
Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. UTRGV – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Greater Chamber of Harlingen. TSTC in Harlingen. Harlingen Economic Development Corporation. Students, educators, community leaders, small business owners, volunteers, and city staff all united with one purpose: to tell Harlingen’s story.
For months, we worked together, practiced together, and believed in one another. We knew we weren’t just preparing a presentation. We were representing an entire community.
Our HCISD mariachi students brought our culture to the stage. Our students shared the future they are helping build. Every member of our delegation demonstrated what is possible when a community works together.
We shared a story rooted in Heart, Hope & Gente.
Yesterday, that story was recognized.
Harlingen has been named a 2026 All-America City, and we are especially proud to be the only city in Texas to receive this honor this year.
This award belongs to everyone who calls Harlingen home. It belongs to every volunteer, educator, first responder, nonprofit, business owner, city employee, student, and resident who makes our community stronger every single day.
Thank you to the National Civic League for this incredible honor, and thank you to everyone who believed in us, prayed for us, supported us, and cheered us on from home.
We are bringing this award home where it belongs.
Harlingen, this is your award.
