Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said today that its aerospace force had tracked and destroyed another US military MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.

The crisis over the Strait of Hormuz could delay some QatarEnergy expansion projects because critical equipment is unable to reach Qatar, its CEO Saad al-Kaabi said on Sunday.

He said that QatarEnergy was currently producing only a “very minute” volume of liquefied natural gas.

A few LNG trains under QatarEnergy’s North Field East (NFE) expansion are due to start up in 2027, with the North Field South (NFS) expansion set to begin production in 2028, Kaabi said at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York.

The US is determined to ensure Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon and will continue to apply “maximum pressure to that end”, Mike Waltz, the US envoy to the UN, said.

In a post on X, Mr Waltz said the door remained open for Iran to return to the “negotiating table if they do so in good faith”.

Speaking at an event in New York hosted by Al-Monitor, footage of which he shared in the post, Mr Waltz called the US-Israel war on Iran the continuation of a 47-year conflict.

“The president is determined to stay focused on his goals of Iran, the largest and most prolific sponsor of terrorism the world has ever seen, will certainly not be able to hold the world hostage, much less the Strait of Hormuz, under a nuclear umbrella,” he said.

The Trump administration has prepared sanctions against the entire International Criminal Court and plans to announce them soon, Reuters reported, quoting two sources familiar with the matter.

Both Reuters and the Wall Street Journal reported the decision could be finalised as soon as this week, during the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

Washington has already sanctioned a number of ICC judges and prosecutors. But entity-wide sanctions would prohibit American citizens and companies from providing funds, goods or services to the court without a licence from the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, limiting operations including hiring investigators and paying dozens of American employees.

Secretary of state Marco Rubio announced a campaign in July to isolate the court, calling on other countries to withdraw from it. Mr Trump’s opposition to the court dates back to his first term and resurfaced after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in November 2024.

France will summon Iran’s ambassador and take ⁠appropriate measures in response after Iranian authorities sealed a French language centre affiliated with its embassy in Tehran, the French foreign ministry has said.

“This new attack against France’s cultural presence in Iran, following the assault on two staff members of the French embassy last July, is unjustifiable and unacceptable,” ⁠spokesperson Pascal Confavreux said in a ​statement yesterday.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported earlier yesterday that authorities had closed the French language centre following a judicial order from ‌the Tehran prosecutor’s office.

The centre ‌operated for years under the cover of foreign-language teaching despite repeated warnings to obtain a licence, authorities said, accusing it of activities against Iranian culture and national security, including identifying and building networks as well as ⁠facilitating the departure of skilled Iranians from the country.

France has previously dismissed such allegations, saying there had been a pattern of intimidation in recent months as Paris sought to increase its support for, and contacts with, Iran’s civil society following a crackdown on protests at the start of this year.

US president Donald Trump said he is in “deciding mode” over the Iran war, warning that “big things are going to happen”.

His remarks come as both the US and Iran exchange threats again. Tehran also said it had shared its conditions with Washington, through mediators, for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Mr Trump told Fox News he was in “deciding mode” and warned that “very big things are going to be happening in the not-so-distant future” if the Iranian regime does not “behave”.

“My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up? They had better behave,” he said.

He discussed three possible options for the war: “wiping Iran out,” “letting them rot economically”, or “making a deal.

Dissidents, activists and journalists were targeted by state actors that impersonated their contacts on messaging apps to trick them into downloading spyware called Chosen Brick, the National Cyber Security Centre, part of GCHQ, warned.

The malware gave agents access to the person’s contacts, emails and social media messages as well as a device’s microphone and content on the screen.

Iran has received information that the United States, with the backing of some regional countries, was preparing to resume actions against Iran, the country’s central military command said in a statement on Sunday, according to state media.

Reuters reported that the military said any US attack would ⁠trigger sustained strikes on US bases and interests in the region, the report added.

It warned that regional ​countries supporting ‌US aggression ⁠against Iran would ⁠be considered parties ‌to ​the conflict.

Egypt, Jordan and Kuwait said the Houthi attack on Riyadh was a threat to regional security and stability and a violation of international law.

The nations in separate statements said their governments stand with Saudi Arabia in support of its sovereignty and protection of its civilians.

The Muslim World League also condemned the attack on civilians and civilian infrastructure as a violation of “all religious values as well as international and humanitarian laws and norms.”

It was the first time the Saudi capital has been targeted since the escalation in fighting with the Iran-backed rebels opened a new front in the Iran war.

Saudi Arabia said the attack was intercepted.

Some residents in Riyadh heard an explosion, and later some saw a plume of smoke near the airport.

There were no reports of casualties or damage.
