EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health and South Texas College held a graduation ceremony for their inaugural Registered Nurse Apprenticeship Program.
Ten students from STC were honored. They were: Adrian Villarreal, Aliyah Silva, Amber Marie Moreno, Ingrid Puentes, Samantha Rosales, Hailey All, Alejandra Mendoza, Eros Alexánder Pérez-Báez, Ynna De La Cruz, and Wilson Mutia.
Speakers at the event said the graduation marks an historic milestone for both STC and the future of the Rio Grande Valley’s healthcare workforce.
They said that through the Registered Nurse Apprenticeship Program with DHR Health, students have gained essential skills and hands-on experience, thereby directly addressing the ongoing nursing shortage in Texas and across the nation.
And they pointed out that unlike traditional nursing students who often must juggle their studies with unrelated jobs, these apprentices had the unique opportunity to earn compensation while completing their education and clinical training.
