U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested 238 illegal aliens in the Rio Grande Valley in partnership with federal, state, and local law enforcement.
The June 18th operation achieved the highest number of targeted arrests in a single day to date for the Harlingen field office. ICE officials stated that the goal of the operation was to increase public safety by arresting and removing illegal aliens from local communities.
Among those arrested were individuals who had convictions such as kidnapping, sexual battery, and drug possession. The agents arrested an alleged Paisas gang member, Manuel Morales-Geronimo, who had convictions for assault, sexual battery, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, driving while intoxicated, and illegal reentry.
Other examples of individuals arrested by ICE include Jose Alfredo Castillo-Mendoza, who was convicted of attempted kidnapping and sexual battery; Fernando Leonel Perez-Torres, who had convictions regarding theft and collision involving injury; and Noe Tinoco Perez, who was convicted on counts of drug trafficking, maintaining a place for a controlled substance, and the possession of a controlled substance.
“The ICE mission continues to focus on enhancing public safety and restoring integrity to our nation’s immigration system,” said ICE Harlingen Field Office Director Juan Agudelo. “We will stop at nothing to keep our American communities safe by removing one criminal illegal alien at a time.”
ICE, tasked with enforcing federal immigration laws and arresting individuals who have no legal right to remain in the United States, has been under scrutiny in Texas following the death of an illegal alien in Houston last week.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the ICE agent involved in the shooting was acting in self-defense as the illegal alien had ignored orders from agents and attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon.
While unconfirmed reports earlier this week suggested ICE would be ceasing traffic stops, President Donald Trump in a Truth Social post early Wednesday morning “we CANNOT give up one of I.C.E.’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP!”
The president wrote that former President Joe Biden’s open border policies had allowed millions of unvetted illegal aliens into the country, including criminals. Trump stated that the criminals must be removed and advised ICE agents to “be judicious, fair and smart, and go back and do your very important job.”
