The side-by-side store spaces at the Shops at Rio Grande Valley had remained vacant since those 2020 closures. But that started to change earlier this year. In late March, Kerrville-based jeweler James Avery opened its very first Edinburg location in Suite A — the 3,330-square-foot suite that had housed the Lane Bryant store. Now, Bath & Body Works is set to take over the adjoining Suite B. However, it remains unclear when renovations will begin or when the new Bath & Body Works will open. Edinburg officials didn’t say.
Meanwhile, several other spots at the popular shopping plaza that have lain vacant after the departure of other big-name retailers are also getting new tenants. On the far side of the plaza, a large, 30,000-square-foot retail anchor space that once housed a Big Lots is currently being transformed into a dd’s DISCOUNTS. Renovations of that space are so close to being done that construction crews have already hung a storefront sign in the company’s eye-catching pink and teal colors. Just a few doors down, the former site of a Party City remains the only spot at the Shops plaza to remain vacant.
