A 48-year-old Edinburg woman was arrested Wednesday after an investigation conducted by McAllen police tied her to the overdose death of a 39-year-old McAllen man that happened in April.
Vanessa Denise Rico is charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance causing serious bodily injury or death and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, according to a press release from the McAllen Police Department.
She was arraigned in the McAllen Municipal Court Thursday morning.
According to the release, the investigation began on April 10 after officers responded to the 1600 block of Dove Avenue in McAllen in regards to an unresponsive man.
Police found the man dead at the scene and a forensic examination determined the cause of death to be recent drug use.
Over the course of the investigation, Rico was identified as the source of the controlled substance and a search warrant was executed at her residence in Edinburg.
It was there that police found 1.85 grams of cocaine and packaging equipment which was seized.
Rico was remanded to the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center and given $10,000 in bonds, according to the release.
