ALTON — Two people were found dead in a home Tuesday night and one person is in custody.
In an email, Alton Police Department Chief Mark Perez said that approximately 9:13 p.m. officers responded to a residence in the Tuscany Village Subdivision regarding a reported disturbance.
On arrival, police found two dead people and transported a third to a local hospital for medical treatment, Perez said.
On Wednesday morning, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office said the third person died at the hospital.
Authorities on Wednesday afternoon identified the victims as 56-year-old Sweeta Ram, 46-year-old Kamlesh Rani and 73-year-old Mindeer Kaur.
The sheriff’s office has not said whether the victims were related or whether they were related to the suspect, who fled the scene prior to police arriving.
“Following a short vehicle pursuit, the suspect crashed near the intersection of 4 Mile Line Road and Glasscock Road,” Perez said. “The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.”
The sheriff’s office said the shootings took place at 3701 E. Roosevelt Ave.
Investigators were seen at a large cream-colored home on Wednesday and officers were seen going door-to-door speaking with neighbors. On the corner of 6 Mile Line and Glasscock, two officers were also seen searching an area with tall grass.
A pair of family members also arrived at the scene and spoke to police before leaving.
There is no threat to the public and the scene has been secured and is safe.
“At this time, the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation,” a news release stated.
The sheriff’s office said late Wednesday afternoon the suspect is scheduled to make their first appearance at 9 a.m. Thursday.
