San Juan Man Charged with Murder Following Domestic Shooting Incident

A 67-year-old San Juan resident has been charged with murder after a tragic domestic shooting incident that occurred in November 2024. Alfredo Rodriguez Jr. was arrested on Thursday, approximately two months after the incident, as detailed in a probable cause affidavit released by local police.

Overview of the Incident

On November 10, 2024, authorities responded to a disturbance call at 1313 Andrews St. in San Juan around 2:53 a.m. The call originated from Felipe Rodriguez, who reported that his brother, Alfred Rodriguez Jr., had shot his wife, Maria Isabel Rodriguez.

Initial Response by Authorities

Upon their arrival, officers discovered the couple on the floor of their master bedroom, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Rodriguez Jr. was found facing down with a gunshot wound to the chin, while Maria was lying on her back with two gunshot wounds, one to the stomach and another to the right shoulder.

Medical Response and Aftermath

Despite their injuries, both individuals had a pulse and were promptly transported to South Texas Health System McAllen for urgent medical treatment. Tragically, Maria Isabel Rodriguez succumbed to her injuries 12 days later in the hospital.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Following the incident, authorities located a .357 magnum revolver next to Rodriguez Jr.’s right hand at the scene. The findings prompted an immediate investigation, leading to Rodriguez Jr.’s arrest. He is currently being held at Hidalgo County Jail with a bail set at $1 million for the murder charge.

Understanding the Legal Framework

Murder charges arise from serious allegations and can carry severe penalties. It is crucial for individuals facing such charges to seek appropriate legal representation. For more detailed information regarding legal procedures related to murder charges, visit the National Institute of Justice for resources and support.

Community Reaction

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community of San Juan, highlighting the pressing issue of domestic violence. Many local organizations advocate for awareness and prevention of domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in addressing such critical issues.
