Capture of Fugitive Eliud Perez Reyes: Update from Texas DPS

Introduction

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) recently announced the apprehension of yet another fugitive from the notorious Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List. This time, the arrest occurred in Hidalgo County, where 45-year-old Eliud Perez Reyes was taken into custody on May 26, 2025. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in Texas to ensure public safety by apprehending violent offenders.

Details of the Arrest

Eliud Perez Reyes was apprehended following a traffic stop near the intersection of US-83 BUS and Bentsen Palm Drive in Palmview. Acting on investigative leads provided by DPS Special Agents, highway patrol troopers initiated a stop on a white 2014 Ford Escape, which was found to be driven by Reyes. During the encounter, Reyes attempted to conceal his identity by providing a false name, leading to an additional charge of failure to identify as a fugitive from justice.

Criminal Charges Against Reyes

Reyes had been a fugitive since December 2024, wanted for multiple serious offenses, including:

  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
  • Sexual Assault
  • Assault of a Family/Household Member by Impeding Breath/Circulation

Furthermore, in January 2025, a warrant was issued in Fayette County for his arrest in connection with theft of property.

Crime Stoppers Program

The Texas Crime Stoppers Program, funded by the Governor’s Public Safety Office, incentivizes community involvement in locating fugitives. It offers cash rewards for tips leading to arrests of individuals on the Texas 10 Most Wanted lists, including sex offenders and criminal illegal immigrants. In 2025 alone, law enforcement agencies have successfully captured 30 individuals from these lists, resulting in $25,000 in reward payouts.

How to Report Information

If you have any information on fugitives, you can provide tips through the following methods:

  • Call the Crime Stoppers hotline: 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
  • Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you want to report and following the link under their image.
  • Submit a tip via Facebook by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link found under the “About” section on the Texas 10 Most Wanted Facebook page.

Note on Anonymity

All tips submitted maintain anonimity, and the tipsters will receive a tip number instead of being required to use their names.

Collaborating with Local Law Enforcement

The Texas DPS collaborates closely with local law enforcement agencies to select and prioritize fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List. This coordinated effort aims to enhance community safety and further public trust in law enforcement initiatives. For the current lists featuring photos and descriptions of wanted fugitives, visit the DPS website.

Important Safety Reminder

It is crucial to remember that individuals on these lists are considered armed and dangerous. Under no circumstances should the public attempt to apprehend or confront these fugitives.

Conclusion

The successful capture of Eliud Perez Reyes serves as a reminder of Texas law enforcement’s perseverance in maintaining public safety. The cooperation between the public and agencies like the Texas DPS and Crime Stoppers is essential for addressing issues related to crime in communities. Your vigilance and willingness to report relevant information can contribute substantially to the safety and security of Texas residents.
