Under normal circumstances, high atmospheric pressure often dominates the forecast in Texas during the summer, bringing intense heat and low rain chances. This summer, though, has been abnormal, as a lack of high pressure has allowed for rainy conditions and a lack of extreme heat.

Since June 1, San Antonio has recorded 9.49 inches of rain, which is nearly double the city’s average rainfall. In addition, San Antonio’s average high temperature during that time has been just 91.4 degrees, noticeably cooler than the seasonal average of 94 degrees.

Changes are coming this week, as a high-pressure system is expected to move directly over Texas. It will likely result in the hottest weather the state has experienced so far this year, with triple-digit temps expected for large parts of the state. Here’s an overview of what to expect.

Morning temperatures in San Antonio will be relatively pleasant, likely hovering in the low to mid-70s through 8 a.m. Skies will turn mostly sunny by the late morning, resulting in rapidly rising temperatures.

San Antonio temperature will be in the upper 80s at noon, with afternoon highs expected to reach 95 to 96 degrees. Humidity levels won’t be quite as high as they have been over the past couple of weeks, but “feels-like” temps are still expected to rise near the 100-degree mark.

Parts of the state will see temperatures rise into the triple digits, including the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex, which will see highs near 101 degrees. Areas south and west of San Antonio, including Eagle Pass, Laredo, and the Rio Grande Valley, will also rise to over 100 degrees.

With high atmospheric pressure expected to dominate the forecast, temperatures will stay hot throughout the entire week, with little to no chance of rainfall. San Antonio will likely see consistent high temperatures near 97 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday, possibly inching toward 98 degrees by Thursday and Friday.

Lows will warm slightly throughout the week. After temperatures fall into the low 70s early Tuesday, morning lows are likely to sit in the mid-70s through the rest of the work week.

North Texas will continue to experience even hotter weather, with high temperatures in Dallas likely to rise to as high as 105 degrees from Tuesday through Thursday.

A tropical depression formed across the northeastern Gulf on Sunday, and it is forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm by Monday. If so, it would be the second tropical storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, and it would be given the name Bertha.

The potential tropical storm is expected to move slowly west-northwest over the next couple of days, most likely bringing heavy rain, high winds and dangerous storm surge and rip currents to parts of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.

As the storm continues to the west, it could affect parts of Texas, especially along the coast from Corpus Christi to Houston and Port Arthur. However, a good deal of uncertainty exists at this time regarding its strength, as high atmospheric pressure over the state may cause the tropical system to weaken significantly as it approaches.
