McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A McAllen couple reportedly provided alcoholic drinks to approximately 22 minors at a prom after-party, according to an offense report obtained by ValleyCentral.
On May 10, John Michael, 60, and Tina Marie McIntyre, 55, were arrested on charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor, a Class A misdemeanor, according to the Hidalgo County jail records.
McAllen police responded to the 3100 block of Scenic Way Avenue after dispatch was notified of minors possibly consuming alcohol at a residence, according to the report.
When the officers arrived at the residence, they made contact with an unknown boy who was walking out the front door. According to police, the boy had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath.
Moments later, a woman, later identified as Tina, opened the door and asked the officers, “What was going on?,” and later permitted the police to enter the home. When authorities walked in, they could hear what they described as several teens whispering “shush the police are here” and “hide the drinks”.
When authorities walked towards the back of the house, they saw several bottles and cans of alcohol as well as Solo cups containing alcoholic drinks, and 22 minors.
When police asked how old they were, they all said they were between 16 and 17. According to the report, the minors told police they were at the residence for a “prom after-party,” and several of them reported that the homeowners provided the alcohol and allowed them to drink it.
The homeowners were identified as Tina and John. All 22 minors were cited at the scene.
John and Tina were arrested, booked and released later that day after each posted a $4,000 bond, according to the Hidalgo County jail records.
