The Unsolved Case of Nahomi Rodriguez: Seeking Justice Eight Years Later

Nahomi Rodriguez

Introduction

Eight years ago, a vibrant young woman from Harlingen, Texas, vanished from the face of the earth, leaving behind a community in grief and a family yearning for answers. Nahomi Rodriguez, just 19 years old, completed her shift at McDonald’s one fateful night, marking the beginning of a harrowing mystery that continues to unfold.

Timeline of Disappearance

On July 17, 2016, Nahomi was working the night shift at the McDonald’s located at 602 N. 77 Sunshine Strip. She made a phone call to her mother at 12:30 a.m., informing her that she had found a ride home. However, the last confirmed sighting of her occurred around 1:30 a.m. when she reportedly got into a man’s SUV, as per surveillance footage analysis. Tragically, Nahomi never made it home that night.

Discovery of Remains

The story took a devastating turn in April 2017, when authorities discovered Nahomi’s remains near a canal at the intersection of Centerline Road and FM 106 in Rio Hondo. This heart-wrenching discovery marked the beginning of an intensified investigation, with local authorities pledging to seek justice for Nahomi.

Ongoing Investigations

The Harlingen Police Department continues to push forward in their investigation, collaborating closely with Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz. A recent press release emphasized their commitment to uncovering the truth and providing closure for Nahomi’s family.

Key Suspect: Miguel Angel Flores

Following extensive investigations, authorities shifted their focus to Miguel Angel Flores, a 41-year-old inmate currently serving time for aggravated robbery in a Brazoria state prison. As a person of interest, Flores is believed to have a connection to Nahomi. District Attorney Saenz indicated that there are potentially unidentified co-conspirators involved in this tragic case.

Recent statements from Commander Jose Luis Garcia of the Harlingen Police Department suggest that investigators believe Nahomi and Flores had some prior knowledge of each other, which raises questions about the nature of their interaction. “We strongly believe that co-conspirators are involved,” Garcia noted in a statement on July 14, 2023.

The Search for Truth

The investigation has illuminated several layers of complexity surrounding Nahomi’s disappearance. Saenz hinted that there are family members of Flores who possess crucial information but have been uncooperative with law enforcement. "Based on the investigation, we believe family members may have critical information regarding Nahomi’s death but are refusing to cooperate with law enforcement,” he stated.

Garcia added that recent tips and information have steered the investigation towards Flores. “I believe we found him. Based on the information we have now, it’s going to be a homicide,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of community assistance in solving this case.

How You Can Help

The Harlingen Police Department is actively seeking information from the community to aid in the investigation of Nahomi Rodriguez’s case. If you have any information, you are encouraged to reach out to Investigator Perez at (956) 216-5459 or contact the Harlingen Area Crime Stoppers anonymously at (956) 425-8477.

Conclusion

The unsolved case of Nahomi Rodriguez serves as a somber reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice in cases of missing persons. As eight years pass, the pain remains fresh for her family and the community. With continued efforts from law enforcement and support from the public, there is hope for resolution and closure. The fight for justice continues until the truth is revealed.
