Former Joplin Eagle Always Wright Commits to UT Rio Grande Valley

JOPLIN, MO — In an exciting development for college basketball enthusiasts, former Joplin Eagle player Always Wright has officially committed to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) to further his collegiate career. This decision marks a significant chapter in Wright’s basketball journey.

Wright’s Journey Through College Basketball

Always Wright’s collegiate basketball career began at the junior college level with the NEO A&M Norsemen in Miami, Oklahoma. During his time with the Norsemen, he showcased his talent by averaging 14.7 points, 6.4 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. His impressive performance earned him several accolades, including First-Team All-Region and a selection to the Region II First-Team. Moreover, he played a pivotal role in leading his team to an OCAC regular season title.

Transition to Division One Basketball

Wright made the jump to Division One basketball by joining the Rhode Island Rams in the Atlantic-10 Conference. Over the course of two seasons with the Rams, he made his mark on the court, appearing in 24 games and securing four starting positions during his sophomore year. However, he faced challenges during his junior season, redshirting due to injury concerns.

Future Plans with the Vaqueros

Now, Always Wright is set to join the Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros, where he will have two years of college eligibility remaining. With his experience and skill set, Wright is expected to make a significant impact on the team and elevate their performance in the upcoming season.
