UTRGV Football Joins Forces with Radio United for Exciting Broadcasts
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) has solidified its commitment to enhancing sports culture in the region by partnering with Radio United. Announced on Tuesday, the collaboration will enable all UTRGV football games to be aired in English, ensuring a broader audience can enjoy the Vaqueros’ action-packed games.
Comprehensive Coverage of UTRGV Football
Starting this season, all home and away UTRGV football games will be broadcast live on Ultra 90.1 FM in the Rio Grande Valley and Pure Country 95.7 FM in Laredo. Coverage will begin 30 minutes prior to each game’s kickoff with an engaging pregame show, setting the stage for an electrifying sports experience.
In addition to traditional radio broadcasts, fans can listen to the games online via the Radio Para Mi App, located in the UTRGV Vaqueros section. This dual-platform approach ensures that fans can tune in wherever they are—whether at home, on the go, or at the stadium.
A Message from UTRGV Leadership
Chasse Conque, Vice President and Director of Athletics at UTRGV, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the Vaqueros Sports Network. "We are excited to begin building out this network with stations in two areas that are vital to our university," he stated. The reach into Laredo, in particular, reflects UTRGV’s growing engagement with local communities, especially as they expand academic offerings in the city.
Educational Expansion into Laredo
UTRGV is not just investing in athletics but also in education. The university is set to introduce a Master of Education in Counseling program, focusing on clinical mental health counseling, as well as establishing a location for its Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science in Laredo by fall 2025. This growth signifies a commitment to providing diverse academic opportunities to residents of the Gateway City.
In 2022, UTRGV partnered with the UT Education and Research Center to launch a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Science in Social Work. Recently, the university also signed a joint admission agreement with Laredo College, making it easier for students to transfer. Collaborations with local educational institutions like Laredo ISD further enhance UTRGV’s commitment to community and student development.
About Radio United
The partnership with Radio United brings additional resources to UTRGV football broadcasts. Ultra 90.1 FM (XHRYS) is a 100,000-watt adult contemporary station, catering to the 25-to-54 age demographic. The station’s extensive coverage reaches various parts of the Rio Grande Valley, creating a significant listening community.
Pure Country 95.7 FM (XHBK) complements this with its country music format, also targeting the same age group and extending its footprint over Laredo and Nuevo Laredo in Mexico, thus engaging a vibrant sports-loving audience across borders.
Romeo Herrera, CEO of Radio United, remarked, "We are proud to support UTRGV with our traditional radio and digital platforms to foster a spirit of sports among our youth." This dedication to nurturing future generations aligns well with the aspirations of both UTRGV and Radio United.
