The achievement of a record high cumulative GPA of 3.35 speaks volumes about the dedication of both student-athletes and coaching staff. Furthermore, the department celebrated 128 academic all-conference honors alongside a remarkable NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 990.

Community Service: Leading by Example

The UTRGV athletics community has made an impressive impact on the region. Earning accolades for its commitment to service, the department ranked sixth in the nation for community contributions. With 5,042 hours of service logged, this commitment is reinforced by initiatives such as youth clinics and hosting local conference tournaments.

Thriving Fan Engagement and Attendance

UTRGV’s upward trajectory is further validated by its fan engagement statistics. The department welcomed an impressive 120,000+ attendees across all sports this year, setting multiple attendance records. The baseball program alone saw 62,132 fans, placing them 39th in NCAA Division I. Additionally, a historic crowd of 6,591 attended the women’s basketball game against Texas, marking a significant moment for women’s sports in the region.

Facility Enhancements: Building for the Future

Recent additions include the Vaqueros Golf Center and ongoing renovations to the baseball stadium and fieldhouse, ensuring every program has access to state-of-the-art facilities by 2026.

This financial backing ensures UTRGV can continue to provide unmatched experiences for both athletes and fans, with 6,000 season ticket deposits already recorded for the inaugural 2025 season.

Future Prospects: Joining the Southland Conference

As UTRGV continues to bolster its athletic reputation, joining the Southland Conference marks a new chapter for the institution. This affiliation with seven Texas members will amplify the university’s visibility and brand identity in the realm of NCAA Division I athletics.
