Upcoming Events in the Rio Grande Valley: Community Engagement and Opportunities

As the seasons change, the Rio Grande Valley is abuzz with exciting activities designed to engage and enrich the community. From garage sales to cultural festivals, there’s something for everyone. Here’s what’s happening in the upcoming weeks.

September Events

VFW Post 8788 Garage Sale

On September 28, VFW Post 8788 in McAllen will hold a massive garage sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will take place at 4321 Pecan Blvd. Join community members for great deals while supporting our veterans. For inquiries, contact Homer Gallegos at 956-878-6144.

American Legion Post 37 Activities

American Legion Post 37, located at 1305 E. Jasmine Ave., McAllen, will host various events throughout the month. Mark your calendars for Sundays at 2 p.m. for shuffleboard tournaments, and enjoy special drink offers during Monday Night Football. Don’t miss live music featuring the band Time Machine from 7 to 11 p.m. on September 28.

October Highlights

Edinburg Halloween Fall Festival

Kick off the Halloween season at Edinburg’s Halloween-themed Fall Festival on October 24 at 6 p.m. This enchanting event at Edinburg Municipal Park will feature games, rides, and a costume contest. Best of all, admission is free!

Annual Dakee Si Lipan Apache Tribe Fall Powwow

On October 26, the 54th annual Dakee Si Lipan Apache Tribe fall powwow will take place at the Alton Community Center. The event is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in Native American culture with drumming, singing, and dancing. Doors open at 10 a.m. for a family-friendly day of activities, including food vendors and raffles. Call Robert Soto at 956-648-8129 for more details.

Integrity Auto Repair Workshop

For those interested in vehicles, Integrity Auto Repair will offer a workshop on October 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 215 E. Canton Road, Edinburg. This session will help attendees understand vehicle maintenance, including how to change a tire.

November Activities

Arbor Day Celebration

Join the 13th annual Arbor Day Celebration hosted by Keep McAllen Beautiful on November 2 at Westside Park, 1000 S. Ware Road. This fundraiser features a 5K/10K run, a Kids Fun Run, and a 25mi/100K bike ride. Free trees will be distributed, making it a perfect day for families who want to help the environment. Donna Lions Club Dinner and Dance

On November 16, the Donna Lions Club invites you to a dinner and dance at Victoria Palms, with live music from local bands. RGV Metal Detecting Club

Genealogy Research Assistance

METRO Toastmasters Meetings
