San Antonio Man Arrested for Stalking Police Chief and His Wife

In a troubling turn of events in San Antonio, a 29-year-old man has been accused of stalking the city’s police chief, William McManus, and his spouse. Roger Vittitoe was apprehended in Weslaco, located in the Rio Grande Valley, on September 6, 2023, and subsequently transported back to Bexar County to face legal proceedings.

Arrest Details and Charges

According to records from the Hidalgo County Jail, Vittitoe’s release to another agency occurred shortly after his arrest. Reports confirmed that he was officially booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on Wednesday. Court documents indicate that Vittitoe is facing two third-degree felony charges related to stalking, which are outlined in Bexar County court records.

Unwanted Communication

An arrest affidavit obtained from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) reveals that Vittitoe engaged in persistent, unwelcome electronic communication with Chief McManus and his wife. Between September 3 and September 5, he sent no fewer than 24 voice and text messages, expressing frustration regarding an unrelated criminal case and directing personal comments toward the police chief and his spouse.

In one alarming message, Vittitoe inquired about McManus’s wife, stating, “How’s the female McManus? Had her on LinkedIn then account got deleted…we followed each other.” He further threatened with, “Well, I gave you your 15-day Notice. A few more days left. Hope you make the right decision.” Such intrusive communications raise serious concerns about the victim’s safety and wellbeing.

Investigative Findings

Despite Chief McManus never having met Vittitoe or responding to his unsettling messages, the suspect managed to uncover the chief’s registered phone number. Furthermore, he sent photos near the couple’s residence to McManus’s wife, intensifying the stalking allegations.

While the SAPD has yet to provide an official statement regarding Vittitoe’s arrest, the situation highlights the alarming issue of stalking in today’s digital landscape. Stalking can have severe psychological and emotional effects on victims, and legal action is often pursued to ensure their safety and security.

Conclusion

As the case progresses, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing issues related to stalking and harassment, particularly when they involve individuals in positions of authority. The community remains vigilant as more details emerge about this unsettling incident.

For further details on stalking and its implications, consider visiting the National Center for Victims of Crime or the Stalking Resource Center, which provide valuable resources and information.
