Upcoming Community Event: Friends of NRA Family Day in Mercedes, Texas
The Friends of NRA is excited to announce a dynamic Friends & Family Community Event scheduled for September 20, 2025. This inaugural gathering will take place at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show Event Center, located at 1000 N Texas Ave, Mercedes, Texas.
Event Highlights
This free event extends an open invitation to all community members, regardless of NRA membership status. It emphasizes safe firearm ownership and features introductions to various NRA programs, including:
- Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program
- Refuse to Be a Victim
- Hunter Education
Participants will find a wealth of opportunities to learn about the shooting sports and master safe firearm handling techniques.
Engage and Learn
Attendees can look forward to a vibrant atmosphere filled with interactions with local instructors, NRA leadership, and dedicated staff. This community day will provide enjoyable activities, classes, and the chance for vital engagement with others who share a common interest in firearm safety.

Participate in Exciting Activities
In addition to the hands-on classes, the event will feature engaging experiences such as the Friends of NRA bucket games and the Wall of Guns. Each eligible participant will receive an entry into a raffle for a Henry Lever Action .22, while youth attendees will have a chance to win in a separate drawing tailored for them.
Community Contribution
The Friends of NRA, along with volunteers and local partners, aim to foster community ties with this special event. A noteworthy highlight includes the grant of an Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program Mascot Costume to the City of Mercedes Police Department, further promoting firearm safety, training, and education among youth throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
