UTRGV Welcomes Ramsey Amador as Student-Athlete Academic Advisor
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) has announced the hiring of Ramsey Amador as a new student-athlete academic advisor within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. This pivotal role focuses on enhancing the academic success of UTRGV’s student-athletes, particularly within the football program.
Background of Ramsey Amador
Ramsey Amador is no stranger to UTRGV. He began his collegiate career as a member of the university’s baseball team in 2020, showcasing his athletic talents before transitioning to Texas A&M-Kingsville. During his time at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Amador demonstrated impressive skills, finishing his career with a .278 batting average over 142 games. His standout performance came in 2024 when he achieved a career-high batting average of .345. Furthermore, he contributed to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, gaining valuable experience that he now brings to his advisory role.
A Commitment to Supporting Student-Athletes
Letty Hernandez, the Associate Athletic Director for Student Services, expressed enthusiasm about Amador joining the UTRGV team. "We have made great strides in academics, and Ramsey was previously one of our student-athletes," she remarked. "I know he will share valuable experience with our students. He is bright and personable and will be a great asset and contributor to our department’s success."
Amador himself expressed gratitude for the opportunity. "As a native of the Rio Grande Valley and someone who began my college journey at UTRGV, I’m honored to return as a student-athlete academic advisor," he stated. His firsthand experience as a college athlete gives him unique insights into the challenges student-athletes face when balancing academics and athletics. Professional Experience and Training
In addition to his accomplishments on the field, Ramsey Amador has diverse professional experience. He served as a private baseball trainer at the Cage Rage Facility and acted as a camp coach for youth camps hosted by the Corpus Christi Hooks. Furthermore, Amador gained additional experience as an audit intern for King Ranch Inc., showcasing a well-rounded skill set that enhances his role at UTRGV.
Amador earned both his Master of Business Administration and his Bachelor of Business Administration in management from Texas A&M-Kingsville, further solidifying his qualifications to guide student-athletes in their academic endeavors.
