Transforming Education in the Rio Grande Valley: Honor Roll Gala 2025

MISSION, Texas – The stage is set for the highly anticipated Honor Roll Gala hosted by Teach For America Rio Grande Valley (TFA RGV) at the Mission Event Center on April 4, 2025. This annual event celebrates remarkable contributions from individuals and organizations dedicated to improving educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley.

Celebrating Educational Excellence

Jonathan Stevens, the Senior Managing Director of TFA RGV, emphasizes the importance of the event, stating that it honors those who have made significant impacts in transforming education within the community. “This year’s honorees exemplify extraordinary leadership and unwavering dedication to providing all students with an excellent education,” he remarked.

Award Recipients

Among the exemplary figures recognized this year are:

Annabelle Palomo: Educational Champion

Annabelle Palomo, the CEO and founder of Rio Grande Valley College, will receive the 2025 Honor Roll Educational Champion Award. This acknowledgment is reserved for those who demonstrate profound leadership and commitment to fostering educational excellence and equity for numerous students.

Stevens adds, “This award highlights individual leadership that advances educational goals, creating a lasting impact in our schools and community.”

Region One Education Service Center: Institutional Catalyst

The 2025 Institutional Catalyst Award will be presented to the Region One Education Service Center. This institution embodies collective leadership aimed at uplifting educational standards and equity for a vast number of students. “Their long-term commitment to supporting students and schools makes them a deserving recipient,” Stevens stated.

Pablo Mejia: Alumni Leadership Award

Pablo Mejia, a former Teach For America Corps member from 1999, will be honored with the 2025 Alumni Leadership Award. The award recognizes Teach For America alumni who have significantly impacted educational excellence and equity through sustained efforts in the Rio Grande Valley. “Mejia’s commitment to serving RGV students and schools sets a remarkable example for current and future educators,” said Stevens.

About Teach For America Rio Grande Valley

Teach For America Rio Grande Valley has played a vital role in expanding educational opportunities since its establishment in 1991. The program partners with local districts and charter schools to recruit exceptional leaders who commit to teaching in high-need areas for two years, ultimately becoming lifelong advocates for educational equity.

Today, TFA RGV engages around 400 corps members and alumni, impacting over 15,000 students. These leaders strive for systemic change, ensuring all children have an equal opportunity to learn and grow. As part of the AmeriCorps national service network, TFA RGV remains dedicated to reimagining education in a way that empowers all students.
