Rose Parade 2023: A Rainy but Unforgettable Celebration

As the iconic Rose Parade approaches, Pasadena is buzzing with excitement, despite the impending rain. Volunteers have poured hours into beautifying floats, which are now making their way to the parade route in the wet weather. This year’s Rose Parade promises to be a spectacular event, rain or shine.

A Long-Standing Tradition

For many families, the Rose Parade is more than just an event; it’s a cherished tradition. Covina resident Mark Cook summed it up perfectly, stating, "It’s like being at the parade without having to be at the parade. And we still get to enjoy the rain." Fans are braving the wet conditions with umbrellas and ponchos in hand, ready to secure their spots along the parade route.

Eric Farr from Pomona noted the familial bonds built through this annual event, saying, "This is a family tradition. We’ve been doing it for over 10 years. I think these guys have been out here since they were babies, and we do this every year, rain or shine."

The Impact of Weather

While the rain hasn’t dampened spirits, it has influenced attendance. There are noticeably more covered chairs along Colorado Boulevard than people camping out. Authorities have stepped in to enforce the rules, and tents or pop-ups are not allowed along the parade route. Interestingly, it’s been two decades since rain fell on the world-famous Rose Parade.

For those fortunate enough to stay dry, RVs and campers provide a cozy haven amidst the elements. Riverside resident Stacie Ontko remarked, "We have all the perks; it’s the best ever, but it’s the best way to ring in the new year."

Protecting the Floats

The rain has required parade officials to take precautionary measures, particularly concerning the more delicate elements of the floats. These cautionary steps are essential to ensure that beautifully crafted details remain intact for spectators to enjoy.

Conclusion

The Rose Parade continues to be a highlight of the New Year for many Angelenos and visitors from afar. Despite the challenges posed by the weather, the spirit of celebration remains strong. Those attending can expect an unforgettable experience filled with tradition, community, and resilient joy.
