UTRGV Athletics Welcomes Eddie Galvan as Chief of Staff
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) continues to enhance its athletic programs with strategic leadership moves, including the recent promotion of Eddie Galvan to Chief of Staff and Associate Athletic Director for Development. This initiative underscores the university’s commitment to building a strong foundation for its athletic department and community relations.
Eddie Galvan’s New Role
In his new position, Eddie Galvan will coordinate strategic and operational activities within UTRGV Athletics. His responsibilities will encompass managing cross-functional initiatives, fostering community relations, and advising Senior Vice President and Director of Athletics, Chasse Conque, on critical matters. Galvan’s promotion aims to leverage his extensive experience and passion for the Rio Grande Valley.
"Having Eddie assume the role of Chief of Staff is exciting,” stated Chasse Conque. "His dedication and insight have played significant roles in our department’s success. As part of our senior leadership team, his guidance will be invaluable as we move forward."
A Proven Track Record
Before this recent promotion, Galvan was the Associate Athletic Director for Development and Premium Seating, a role he assumed in March 2024. He spearheaded the launch of the Vaqueros Athletic Fund (VAF), successfully facilitating philanthropic contributions. In fiscal year 2025 alone, UTRGV amassed nearly $7.7 million in revenue, with over $6 million coming from donations.
Galvan’s adept sales strategy has ensured that premium seating options—which include suites and club seats at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium—were sold out before the inaugural season. His leadership expanded to include selling out premium offerings at the UTRGV Baseball Stadium and the new Baseline Club at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
"I am incredibly grateful for the trust that Chasse Conque has placed in me," Galvan commented on his appointment. "The mentorship and support I’ve received have shaped my professional journey."
Experience and Community Impact
Galvan’s journey with UTRGV Athletics began in August 2021 as a Ticket Sales and Operations Assistant. Since then, he has been pivotal in driving ticket sales, leading to record revenues across several sports. He played a crucial role in setting attendance records, including a historical turnout of 6,591 fans for the women’s basketball game against Texas in 2023 and 6,418 fans for a baseball game versus Texas in 2022.
His experience isn’t limited to UTRGV. Galvan previously served as a communications and marketing assistant during his time at UTSA, and he gained further experience through internships with local sports organizations like Bert Ogden Arena and RGV FC.
Academic Credentials
Eddie Galvan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from UTSA, graduating in May 2020. He continued his education at UTRGV, obtaining a Master of Business Administration in December 2022. This academic foundation has equipped him with the knowledge necessary for tackling the challenges in the evolving landscape of college athletics.
Looking Forward
As Chief of Staff, Galvan is committed to uniting the Valley and creating opportunities for UTRGV student-athletes. He acknowledges the responsibility that comes with his new role, emphasizing his dedication to the student-athlete experience and community engagement.
"This university and community have given me so much, and it’s a blessing to serve in this capacity," he stated. "We are dedicated to moving UTRGV Athletics forward."
Galvan’s promotion reinforces UTRGV’s focus on strong leadership and community involvement, creating a promising outlook for the future of UTRGV Athletics. Under his guidance, the athletic department is poised for continued growth and success.
