Kike Cienfuegos, a junior from Sharyland, showcased his skills on the mound, striking out a career-high seven batters in a remarkable five scoreless innings of relief. Taking over the pitch with the Vaqueros trailing 3-1 in the fifth inning, Cienfuegos (now 2-0) demonstrated resilience, allowing just four hits and issuing one walk while keeping the opposing team scoreless. His efforts set the stage for UTRGV’s thrilling comeback.

The turning point of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and only one out, Easton Moomau drew a walk, which allowed a run to score. Soon after, a wild pitch enabled Armani Raygoza to cross home plate, tying the game.
As the game progressed into the eighth inning, the Vaqueros seized the lead. Senior Thomas Williams hit a leadoff single off Texas Southern’s pitcher Jace Maynard (0-1). Following a groundout, graduate student Diego Villescas slapped a single to center field. An errant throw to third allowed Williams to score, while Villescas advanced to third base. The inning culminated with a two-out RBI double from senior Hank Warren, pushing the Vaqueros ahead 5-3.
