UTRGV Women’s Basketball Team Hosts Texas Longhorns in 2025-26 Season
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The excitement for the upcoming UTRGV women’s basketball season is building, especially with the announcement that the team will host the Texas Longhorns, a 2025 Final Four contender, on December 10 at Bert Ogden Arena. This game is set for 6:30 p.m., and it promises to be a thrilling matchup between two formidable teams.
Previous Encounters and Fan Engagement
The UTRGV Vaqueros previously hosted the Longhorns in 2023, drawing a staggering crowd of 6,591 fans—the largest attendance for a women’s basketball game in the Rio Grande Valley. This upcoming clash will mark the 13th face-off between the Vaqueros and Longhorns, with three of those encounters taking place in the Valley.

Upcoming Schedule Highlights
The season kicks off with two home games against St. Mary’s and Arlington Baptist before the team heads out to battle Abilene Christian and Texas State. Following the highly anticipated matchup with Houston on November 20 at the UTRGV Fieldhouse, the Vaqueros will take on another Big 12 opponent, TCU.

Southland Conference Competitiveness
The Vaqueros will kick off their Southland Conference season on December 2 at Lamar. After hosting Texas, they are set for a road trip, including two games against North Dakota State and South Dakota at Pepperdine in Malibu, California.
The regular season will conclude with three consecutive home games prior to the Southland Conference (SLC) tournament, scheduled for March 9-12. The women’s basketball selection show will take place on March 15, with the NCAA Tournament commencing on March 18-19.
