In celebration of the Netflix premiere of “Say a Little Prayer,” a romantic comedy featuring Rio Grande Valley artists, J&S Construction Management is sponsoring a giveaway.
Three winners will receive a $650 staycation package including a two-night stay at a McAllen hotel courtesy of Visit McAllen, a movie-night snack package, a limited-edition bracelet from Maripoza Boutique, a branded blanket and a jewelry box.
Flower Guerrero, marketing director at J&S Construction Management said the giveaway is to say thank you to the community and celebrate what can be accomplished when local talent is part of a production.
J&S Construction Management is a Valley-based construction firm specializing in upscale residential, commercial and industrial construction and land development. Notable projects include Tres Lagos, La Sienna and Villas at Ware.
“Say a Little Prayer” premiered on Netflix on Sept. 3 and follows three San Antonio friends who recite an ancient prayer to St. Anthony to find lost husbands, accidentally unleashing chaos on their love lives.
“St. Anthony is a patron of lost things,” Guerrero said. “They pray to St. Anthony to bring to their long lost husbands but they kind of fall for Luis Fonsi, who plays the main character.”
Guerrero was a part of the production of the film and said it was filmed in 2022 in San Antonio, but has many Valley and Latino connections.
An independently made film, Guerrero said the Latino crew was from Austin and San Antonio.
“We’re really proud of that and it’s nationwide in theaters in 2024 and now it’s nationwide,” she said. “You can watch it in English and Spanish on Netflix, and we’re getting ready for a Latin American release on Netflix as well.”
Guerrero stressed the importance of having films made by the Latino community for the community.
“If we can show Netflix through the algorithms that we’re watching, and then we can show them this is content that speaks to us as Latinos, then we’ll see more out there like this,” she said. “They’ll see more content made by Latinos for Latinos with Latino context in it, and so it’s important to get these kinds of projects out there.”
Guerrero has a personal tie in with the story when she started promoting the movie.
“I went to the Basilica of San Juan and I prayed that if I’m going to promote this movie here locally in the Valley, then I need to believe what I’m promoting, and so I went and prayed for the promotion and for my future husband,” she said. “And soon after my boyfriend from before came back (into my life) and asked me to marry him, so prayer works.”
The giveaway started on Sept. 8 and fans can enter by following J&S Construction Management on Facebook, tagging friends, and sharing the post. The deadline to enter is at the end of Friday and the winner will be announced Saturday.
