If MOSAIC Is Supposed To Change Personal Aviation, This Is Where You Come To Be Part Of It
November 13–15, 2026. SUN ’n FUN Aerospace Expo Campus — Lakeland, Florida. AffordableFlying.net
There is an enormous amount of conversation going on right now about MOSAIC, affordable aircraft, new designs, expanded operating privileges, experimental aviation, ultralights, Light Sport Aircraft and the long-overdue possibility that personal aviation might actually become accessible to a much larger population of people. There is considerably less being done to bring all those people, airplanes, companies, experts and opportunities together in one place where the individual aviation enthusiast is treated as something more important than another admission ticket walking through the gate.

If MOSAIC Is Going to Create a Marketplace, Somebody Has to Put the Marketplace in the Same Place
There has been no shortage of conversation about MOSAIC over the last few years, and now that the regulatory heavy lifting has substantially moved from what might happen to what are we actually going to do with it, the conversation gets considerably more interesting. New airplanes, different airplanes, expanded privileges, new engines and avionics, changing training opportunities and, if the industry doesn’t manage to screw up the opportunity, the possibility of bringing a substantial number of people back into personal aviation—or welcoming them into it for the first time. But regulations don’t create an aviation marketplace by themselves. People do.

Revision 8130.2M Changes Experimental Flight Testing And Airworthiness Certification As MOSAIC Takes Effect
For homebuilders, one of the FAA’s latest certification changes could mean more freedom when it comes time to put a newly completed aircraft through it’s first flights. The updated guidance also reshapes how original airworthiness certificates are handled. Together, the changes mark another important step in bringing the FAA’s MOSAIC framework into everyday general aviation.

Engagement Occurred In Lower Rio Grande Valley In Southern Texas
The U.S. military this week used a laser to shoot down three drones along the U.S.-Mexico border that were allegedly operated by drug cartels, the Pentagon said Thursday. The three unmanned aircraft systems were shot down late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning using an “Army Multipurpose High Energy Laser system,” according to U.S. Northern Command, which is responsible for overseeing certain military defense operations in North America. The engagements occurred in the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas. The military has not disclosed their precise location or said whether the drones were over US or Mexican territory when they were destroyed.

The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office has charged Thomas Justin Smith, 32, with grand theft and scheme to defraud the Florida Heartland EAA Chapter 1240 while serving as the group’s treasurer. He was charged July 31 with larceny of $100,000 or more, fraud to obtain property valued at more than $50,000 and use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony. Smith was the treasurer for the board of directors for the chapter and had full access to five accounts at the MidFlorida Credit Union. Van’s Aircraft says to keep fuselage progress on track, “we need to reallocate manufacturing and assembly resources, which means we have decided to discontinue QuickBuild tanks for the RV-15 wing kit.” The company reports the new, production fuselage is moving along quickly and much of the design work is

F-16s Intercepted 5 General Aviation Aircraft
NORAD F-16 fighter aircraft intercepted five general aviation aircraft that violated the FAA Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) airspace over Houston, Texas, on Aug. 28, 2026. All general aviation aircraft were safely escorted out of the area by NORAD aircraft. The TFR was in place for President Trump’s arrival at Ellington Field Thursday afternoon. Then on Friday, the TFR was in place as he traveled to NASA’s Johnson Space Center to honor the Artemis II astronauts and participate in other space-related events.

The FAA has proposed a rule to exempt military pilot trainees from the requirement to hold an FAA third-class medical certificate, provided they already meet U.S. military pilot medical examination standards. “FAA has determined that U.S. military pilot medical examinations meet or exceed the level of safety established by FAA third-class medical certificate standards. Therefore, it is redundant to require military pilot trainees to meet both standards. The proposed rule would support streamlining the U.S. military use of civilian flight schools. The intended effects are to reduce administrative burdens and costs while maintaining safety standards,” the agency says. The EAA has announced six inductees for its 2026 Sport Aviation Halls of Fame class, recognizing individuals whose work has helped define distinct

Goal Is To Improve Operational Performance At Major Airlines
New research by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Presidential Fellow Dr. Barbara Holder examines pilot training performance at five major airlines to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. Holder, an associate professor in the College of Aviation, School of Graduate Studies, found that airlines struggle to train and assess the nontechnical aspects of pilot performance, known as Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Threat and Error Management (TEM). The research, published in the journal associated with Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics International, introduces a new action-oriented training framework that goes beyond CRM and TEM by making explicit the nontechnical actions and strategies that are foundational for flight safety, she said.
