A 52-year-old McAllen man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually abusing two children for about two years while they were in his care.

Julio Cesar Valdez was found guilty of two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and three counts of indecency with a child by contact, Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios said in a news release.

Jail records indicate he was sentenced on Aug. 14.

The investigation began when McAllen police officers received a report of sexual assault involving Valdez and the two minors on Jan. 26, 2025.

It was later determined that Valdez had been sexually abusing the children for approximately two years.

“During the trial, jurors heard testimony regarding Valdez’s relationship with the family and how he used the trust placed in him while caring for the children,” the release said.

Evidence showed that Valdez took steps to keep the children from revealing the abuse and the trauma experienced by the children and their family.

The jury determined the sentence to be 25 years for each count of continuous sexual abuse of a child, five years for each count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and two years for each count of indecency with a child by contact which will run concurrently.

“The jury has delivered justice and sent a clear message that our community will not tolerate those who take advantage of the most vulnerable members of our community,” Palacios said in the release. “Our office will continue to hold accountable those who prey upon children and violate the trust placed in them.”
