MCALLEN, Texas — Non-profit economic development organization RioPlex is accelerating its international outreach this week, hosting a delegation of Mexican investors in McAllen while preparing for a major foreign trade summit in Mexico City next month.
Led by Executive Director Mario Reyna, RioPlex advocates for cross-border industrial and commercial investment across the binational region encompassing the Rio Grande Valley and northern Tamaulipas.
Guanajuato Delegation Meets in McAllen
A 15-member investment delegation from Guanajuato, Mexico, arrived in the region to explore local commercial partnerships. The delegation includes 13 agricultural producers—focused on commodities like pineapples and papayas—alongside two logistics executives.
The delegation’s schedule culminates in an invitation-only meeting at the McAllen Convention Center, hosted in partnership with the City of McAllen’s economic leadership.
Beyond standard produce distribution, Reyna highlighted the region’s potential to attract value-added agricultural manufacturing, such as canning, processing, and bottling operations. He noted that the RioPlex region offers strategic advantages for industrial expansion, including 14 international ports of entry, deepwater seaports, commercial airports, and proximity to major industrial hubs like SpaceX’s Starbase.
Inaugural Member Meeting
Alongside the investor delegation, RioPlex is hosting its first annual member meeting this week. The private gathering for roughly 50 to 60 organization members and “visionary partners” will review first-year milestones and outline strategic growth plans for the upcoming year.
International Expansion: Mexico City Summit
Looking ahead, RioPlex will host a multi-nation trade event in Mexico City on September 9–10.
- Diplomatic Outreach: RioPlex leadership and trade teams have conducted diplomatic visits to between 30 and 40 foreign embassies and trade offices—including representatives from Spain, Israel, India, Japan (JETRO), Taiwan, the American-Mexican Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Embassy—to pitch the region to commercial attachés.
- Investor Summit: The September event is projected to convene approximately 200 international investors and diplomatic representatives to position the RioPlex binational corridor as a premier supply chain and manufacturing gateway in North America.
