A Peñitas man arrested for possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material admitted to authorities that he was part of Telegram groups responsible for selling nude photos of women from the Rio Grande Valley.
Jesus David Gutierrez was charged with receipt and distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography following an investigation led by the FBI that began in April, according to a criminal complaint.
On April 25, members of the FBI Intelligence Squad I-4 located in McAllen identified an IP address as possessing and sharing child sexual abuse material.
The IP address used BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file-sharing and data distribution protocol, to share the material that was described as “particularly graphic and violent.”
“The files available for download included photos and videos depicting children as young as seven-year-old being sexually assaulted,” the complaint said.
Subscriber information for the IP address returned to a residence in Peñitas.
On Tuesday, special agents executed a search warrant at the residence where they found Gutierrez hiding in a closet in one of the bedrooms, according to the complaint.
During an interview, Gutierrez admitted that he had sexual abuse material on his phone and that he was a member of multiple Telegram groups that were responsible for selling nude photos of women from the RGV area.
“Within those groups, individuals also send links/photos/videos of child pornography,” the complaint said.
He added that he was a member of multiple, similar WhatsApp groups.
Agents conducted a consensual, manual review of Gutierrez’s cellphone and found the material in his “trash folder” on his photos application.
Gutierrez made his initial appearance in McAllen federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Juan F. Alanis Wednesday morning.
