Thousands of customers across deep South Texas were without power Monday as tropical moisture moved into the region on Monday, June 15, bringing the threat of days of heavy rain and possible flooding to the Rio Grande Valley.

Further up the coast, more than 270 AEP customers are without power across Nueces, San Patricio and Aransas counties in the Coastal Bend.
The highest number of outages in that region of Texas are currently in Nueces County, with the bulk of those inside the Corpus Christi city limits, the AEP Texas map shows. Moving inland, another 111 customers in Bee and Goliad counties are also without power.
A wave of tropical moisture is currently moving across Texas after having traveled northward from the Bay of Campeche over the weekend. The weather system is the remnants of Tropical Storm Cristina, which traversed across Central America before re-emerging on Mexico’s eastern coast last Friday.
The National Weather Service in Brownsville said much of the Rio Grande Valley could see 4 to 6 inches of rain through Wednesday, with isolated areas receiving as much as 8 inches.
