MONTE VISTA — Families from throughout the San Luis Valley gathered at the Ski-Hi Complex on Saturday, July 25, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Rio Grande County Community Health Fair, an annual event that combines healthcare, and family fun under one roof.

Hosted by Rio Grande County Public Health in partnership with numerous community organizations, the free event welcomed residents and offered affordable health screenings, laboratory testing, educational resources and activities for all ages.

Visitors had the opportunity to purchase a variety of discounted laboratory tests, including chemistry panels with lipid and thyroid (TSH) screening, complete blood counts (CBC), hemoglobin A1C testing, blood typing, vitamin D testing and prostate- specific antigen (PSA) testing for men. The low-cost screenings gave residents an affordable opportunity to learn more about their health and emphasized the importance of preventive care.

Beyond the screenings, dozens of organizations and local businesses filled the Ski-Hi Complex with informational booths showcasing healthcare services, family programs and support available throughout the San Luis Valley.

Among the participants were Rio Grande Hospital and Clinics, Mountain Valley Medicare, River Valley Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, the LOR Foundation, Rio Grande Child Development and Family Services Preschool, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley, and the Colorado Army National Guard, along with many other organizations dedicated to serving area residents.

Representatives spent the morning answering questions, distributing educational materials and introducing visitors to programs designed to improve health, provide resources, strengthen families and connect residents with local services.

The event also featured free food. Children enjoyed bouncy houses set up inside the venue, while door prizes added another element of excitement throughout the day.

Colorful vendor displays along with local vendors, including Gia Designs and Dripping Eye Glass, to name a few, along with healthcare exhibits and children’s activities reflected the collaborative effort behind the annual event. Residents had the opportunity to speak directly with healthcare professionals, nonprofit organizations, other residents, and community partners, making it easy to learn about programs and services available close to home.

Following the event, Rio Grande County Public Health thanked the many vendors, volunteers and community members whose participation helped make the day a success.

The City of Monte Vista also expressed its appreciation to the Rio Grande County Community Health Fair for once again selecting the Ski-Hi Complex as the host location.

“It was wonderful to see so many organizations, healthcare providers, local vendors and community members come together to promote health, wellness and education,” the city shared in a post following the event. “From health screenings and family activities to local businesses and community resources, there was something for everyone to enjoy.”

City officials added that events like the health fair strengthen the community by connecting residents with valuable services while showcasing the Ski-Hi Complex as a premier venue for gatherings that benefit the San Luis Valley.
