A 35-year-old Honduran man illegally residing in Donna was arrested on March 19 after attempting to coerce someone he believed to be a 16-year-old into having sex.
Anael Jossue Rodriguez-Rodas, who was born in 1990, was charged with attempting to coerce a girl under the age of 18 to engage in sexual activity.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, Rodriguez-Rodas made plans to meet at a local park with intentions to take the teen back to his house to have sex.
Between March 17 and March 19, Homeland Security Investigations McAllen were conducting an undercover chat operation in Hidalgo County where special agents posed as a 16-year-old girl on an online application where Rodriguez-Rodas was identified, according to a criminal complaint.
Rodriguez-Rodas communicated with the undercover agent who told him that they were 16-years-old to which Rodriguez-Rodas responded with, “Excellent, send your address.”
He also told the agent that he would like to meet the supposed girl before her parents got home and sent a photo of two adults engaged in sexual intercourse and said, “I want it like this,” in Spanish.
The complaint goes on to say that Rodriguez-Rodas asked the girl if she’s had sex before along with other explicitly sexual questions.
He then asked where she lived and made plans to meet at a location near her residence where he arrived at 6 p.m., according to the complaint.
Rodriguez-Rodas was indicted on April 14 and arraigned on April 22.
He was re-arraigned Monday and pleaded guilty to his charge of coercion, according to court documents.
Rodriguez-Rodas is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 6. He is facing a mandatory minimum 10-year prison sentence or life and a possible $250,000 maximum fine.
