Rebel Joan Of Arc Chapter Members Elaine Hamlin Collings and Vizi Lange Caldwell, traveled to McAllen, Texas, down in the Rio Grande Valley honoring our great historical markers across America. Here at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in McAllen, EVERY war since America’s birth is recognized and respected. Both Elaine Collings and Vizi Caldwell have their Confederate ancestors of the “War Between the States” recognized with their names on bricks below this beautiful amazing marker. Colonel Plummer, who recently turned 100 years old, was the Master-mind behind this amazing park. Both Elaine and Vizi can be seen here wearing their Rebel Joan Of Arc Chapter Name badges of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Elaine Collings has had her 15 Confederate Soldiers of her Material Line, “Proved” through the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and all were from Louisiana. Her Confederate Ancestor Cousins in Texas could not be approved as UDC does not accept cousins, only Grand Parents and Aunts & Uncles “who gave service to the Confederate Cause”. McAllen is the hometown of Elaine Hamlin Collings and after this tour, Elaine was so pleased to show Vizi Caldwell all the historical locations associated and connected to McAllen.
The last battle of the Civil War was fought down at the Battle of Palmetto Ranch, south of Brownsville.
THE SOUTH WON! But General Lee had already surrendered.
The Hamlin Family have been multi-generations in the Valley, and Elaine is a very proud 9th Generation Texan.
Vizi Lange Caldwell descends of “Robert the Bruce” of Scotland, and she is also a proud Confederate Descendant.
Summer is here and now is the time for Families to learn their State and Nation’s History, especially in our 250th Year of America. Stop and read our Texas Historical Markers, you might be surprised what happened there!
