Rising Star: Rebecca Littleton’s Journey in Girls’ Basketball
Rebecca Littleton, the dynamic head coach of the Harlingen South girls’ basketball team, has become a prominent figure in the local sports arena. As a proud native of the Rio Grande Valley, she brings a wealth of experience and passion to her coaching role. Littleton, a 2008 graduate of McHi, has a rich athletic background that extends beyond high school, having excelled in multiple sports during her time at Texas Lutheran University.
Early Influences and Athletic Journey
Growing up as a coach’s daughter, Littleton witnessed firsthand the dedication and passion that comes with a coaching career. Although she didn’t initially envision herself in a coaching role, her experiences in college transformed her perspective. "Athletics is my life," she reflects. "I want to give back to kids what I learned—like the valuable life lessons that were taught to me. This is all I know, so I might as well share my knowledge."
Her college years at Texas Lutheran University proved transformative. While earning a spot on both the volleyball and basketball teams, Littleton forged lasting relationships. “I built a lot of friendships with my teammates that remain strong today. My coaching network emerged from my TLU alumni experience, as I learned from numerous great coaches,” she shared.
Building a Coaching Career
Littleton’s coaching journey began when she received a call about an assistant coaching position at McAllen Memorial, where she led both basketball and track teams. This opportunity paved the way for her subsequent role as the head coach of girls’ basketball at Los Fresnos.
Eventually, she found her way to Harlingen South, where she took on new and expanded responsibilities. "This was a different role," she notes, referring to her responsibilities as the girls’ coordinator. "Becoming part of Harlingen has been a blessing. I enjoy imparting my knowledge to both athletes and fellow coaches—Harlingen truly is a remarkable place."
Balancing Life and Coaching
In addition to her role as a head coach, Littleton successfully navigates the challenges of being a devoted mother and the supportive wife of a coach. Her husband serves as the head football coach at Raymondville, creating a busy and dynamic family lifestyle. “It’s a balancing act, but it’s fun. We’re always on the go, and while it can be exhausting, witnessing his successes and sharing our lives at practices and games is incredibly important to us,” she commented.
Milestones and Achievements
Rebecca Littleton recently celebrated a significant milestone in her career—her 200th win as a head coach. Under her leadership, the Harlingen South Lady Hawks are poised to secure yet another district title, showcasing her impact on the team’s performance and growth.
"The wins come from hard work and hustle," she reflects. "Sometimes, amid the fast-paced nature of coaching, you have to take a moment to appreciate what you’ve accomplished. It’s gratifying to see how the grind truly pays off."

Her journey from a multi-sport athlete to a successful coach embodies the spirit of resilience and the importance of nurturing the next generation of athletes.
