Teens Arrested in Assault on McAllen Police Officer

Two teenagers from the Rio Grande Valley have been taken into custody following an altercation that involved a McAllen police officer on Sunday morning. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces regarding public disturbances in urban areas.

Incident Overview

At approximately 2:06 AM on Sunday, McAllen police responded to reports of multiple disturbances near the intersection of South 17th Street and Beaumont Avenue. Witnesses described a large crowd shouting and a group of males engaged in a physical fight.

Upon arrival, the officers found several individuals fighting in public and attempted to de-escalate the situation. This led to the detention of 18-year-old Sergio Contreras Sandoval, a resident of Mission, who was charged with resisting arrest and public intoxication. In addition to these charges, he also faced accusations of interference with public duties.

Involvement of Alexander Andree Flores

Seventeen-year-old Alexander Andree Flores, a resident of Alton, was also implicated in the incident. As officers tried to arrest him, he allegedly assaulted one of the police officers and subsequently attempted to evade capture. His actions resulted in charges of assault on a peace officer and evading arrest.

Ongoing Investigation

Following the arrests, McAllen police have stated that they will continue to investigate the incident, with the support of state and federal law enforcement agencies. The identities of other individuals who participated in the fight remain undisclosed, but the police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Legal Consequences

Both teens were arraigned on Monday morning, with Flores receiving a total bond of $250,000 while Sandoval was granted a bond of $100,000. Such legal consequences underscore the serious nature of the charges, particularly given the involvement of law enforcement.

How to Report Information

Local authorities are calling on the community for assistance. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact McAllen Crime Stoppers at (956) 687-8477. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and there may be eligibility for cash rewards for information leading to successful prosecutions. Interested individuals can also utilize the P3 Tips app to submit their tips anonymously.

Conclusion

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of public gatherings and the potential for violence. McAllen police are committed to providing a safe environment for residents and will continue their efforts to address disturbances effectively.
