Celebrating Empowerment: Highlights from the “Hats Off to Women of Distinction” Gala

The Mistress of Ceremonies, Dr. Esmeralda Adame, highlighted the importance of reflection and recognition, stating that “Recognition is not just about awards; it’s a reflection of the journey—filled with strength, courage, and hope.” Following her introduction, Adelita Muñoz delivered a heartfelt invocation, setting a moving tone for the evening.

Maria “Lupita” Guerra, with 27 years of exemplary leadership at Walmart, was honored for her commitment to inclusion and mentorship, positively impacting over 3,500 associates.
Educational Innovation Award
Dr. Annabelle Palomo transformed a modest CNA program into a leading institution with a diverse array of healthcare courses, helping to address the national nursing shortage.
Environmental & Agriculture Award
Naomi Perales, chairwoman of the RGV Partnership, received recognition for her innovative work in environmental education and community engagement.
Financial Leadership Award
Once working in migrant fields, Mary Lou Vicencio now serves as Executive Vice President and COO of Vantage Bank, heralding the importance of resilience and strong support systems in achieving professional success.
Healthcare Champion Award
Sylvia Hinojosa, a passionate cancer survivor and advocate, encouraged attendees to prioritize self-care and empowerment in their daily lives.
Justice & Legal Advocacy Award
Leah Wise and Mayor Norma Sepulveda jointly received this award for their unwavering commitment to justice and community empowerment.
